QuestionI live in St. Louis near a river. This spring has been just a little wetter than normal. W have a large problem with some springs that have appeared in our yard. We installed a french drain last year to combat it and it worked all last year, This year we have a swamp in out backyard. Springs are in the area, but it is to the point that at night I can go outside and hear the trickle of the water. Will adding arms to the French Drain help? By the way we empty into a sump pit and the pump it out to the storm drain (approx 50 gallons a day.
AnswerIf I owned this property, I would consider putting in a "spring box" (do a Google search to see what I'm talking about), or consider adding a water feature like a pond or flowing stream, assuming that the flow had a place to go to like a creek or public storm drain system...This is also assuming that you have a big enough backyard to accomodate a larger water feature.
For us on in the dry west, having a spring is like finding a vein of gold in your back yard!
