QuestionI live in Southern California. Very dry western Riverside County. My lot size is approx .45 AC. My lot has steep slopes on one side that can be traversed but you must be careful. I have had iceplant there before but I would like to put something else in there. There are 3 pine trees across the slope horizontally. I don't know if I want hardscape or not. The rest of the lot has trees here and there and has 3 different levels with small slopes. Any suggestions/ideas?
AnswerHello Dave,
For sloped areas you can plant Liriope muscari with your ice plant. Liriope does a great job with preventing erosion of soil. Liriope comes in varigated foiliage and non varigated. Flower in whit or purple. Another idea would be ornamental grasse and cotoneaster, both work well on sloped areas. Having the slope made into levels is a great option. To have easy access to each level, have natural stone steps installed. Having the slope broken down into levels will allow you to plant a variety of plants, and it will allow you to look at your landscape easier. Hope this helped.
