QuestionHi I just move to Georgia, and thinking of opening a landscaping business. Want I wanted to know is how do I go about obtaining my license, or is that required in the state of GA.
AnswerThere is a brand new state law requiring a contractor's license to do general contracting in the state of Georgia. However, my understanding is that if you are only installing plants and no hardscape that you don't need this license. However, as soon as you start building walls, decks, patios, driveways, fences, etc. you will need that license.
Other than that all you need is a business license in your home city or county. If you are incorporating (which I would) then you need to get filed in your state with the secretary of state. You can find out about that on line.
Getting incorporated usually requires an attorney unless you are pretty savvy in legal jargon.
Good luck
