white flowering shrubs

Question
I'm looking for a white flowering shrub - to grow to about 5 or 6 feet, rounded shape to put in a front yard bed in the middle of the yard.  Early morning sun, afternoon shade.  The one I am thinking about is common in zone 9, but I can't think of the name of it.  An abundance of small white flowers.  Can you help?

Answer
Maybe you are thinking Gardenias (G. jasminoides), for "big" white flowers?

There are lots of bushy, white-flowering shrubs: Butterfly bush (alba variety), Dogwood, Hydrangea, Mock Orange, Rhododendrons, Privet (Ligustrum), White Breath of Heaven, Rose-of-Sharon, Viburnum, Sweetspire, Snowmound Spiraea, to name a few (There are others!).

Most all of these should grow in a zone 9, and all with white flowers.  Hope I hit on what you wanted...

I would suggest that if you want to match a plant in the neighborhood, break off a sprig (with permission from the shrub/tree owner!) and take it to a local nursery.

Hope it helps -Marc
