QuestionOur yard has several oak tress. Each year, when the leaves begin to fall, we have a major fungus problem. Suggestions?
AnswerThank you for your e-mail. There are several different reasons for the fungus your trees are getting. There is also different type of fungus that oak tree can get. The most common cause of the fungus is poor drainage and another is caused by barriers such as concrete foundation and footings, streets, and swimming pools downhill of the oak trees this causes a underground dam causing water to back up into the tree roots. The best thing to do is have some drains installed near the oak trees lower side of the ground, second thing, is remove plants that need watering that may be around the trees, and third thing is don't water the oak trees. Oak tree need very, very little water and with poor drainage over watering the oak tree can be a unseen mistake and can do damage to the trees. I hope I gave you some info that helps you out. I don't know the area were you live so I really could not be more specific on the cause or care. If you would like to send me a little more back ground info I could get you a lot more info and answers for you. Take care and good luck. Bill
