Question We have these trees that grow like weeds. They produce seed pods that helicopter down and land all over my yard and then grow like weeds . The lawn mower takes care of the ones in the open, but, they are growing up against the house. Some of them are growing between the house and our heating unit, pushing it off the ground. We have tried putting woody plant poison on but the are very tenacious. What can you suggest ? Thank for your time, Sharon in Virginia
AnswerSharon,
This seems to be a real problem.I am used to certain types of Maples that produce these. They usually sprout in flower beds and have to be removed rather quickly before they become too large to pull up.I have seen several neglected gardens where I have had to dig them up out of the beds.I have not seen a problem with them dropping around the tree area that just proper mowing or weed eating would not solve. It sounds like you have a very rapid seed dropper, some sort of Sugar Maple perhaps.Just not sure.I think you may get better answers from a tree expert here on our panel of experts on AllExperts.Go to main menu,Gardening,Landscaping,Trees.I believe we have several good experts on that panel that could help you more.My expertise is mainly with flowering perennials and shrubs.I did find several links on Google for you to check out.So sorry for your problem. It sounds really annoying.I would certainly check our tree experts though.I really hope you can get this solved before any major problems occur!
