QuestionWe have a multiple trunk carrot tree in a large concrete tree ring about 15 inches above the ground. It has been about 15 years and the tree ring is starting to crack and the bricks on top are loose. How can we secure it so it will not continue to crack and break apart from the root growth? Could be put a metal ring around it and cinch it tight? Is there something is plastic that would work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

AnswerUnfortunately the only thing you would be able to do with the concrete ring is patch it with a concrete plug or patch. As for the metal band or ring you would like to use, it will hold it together but it will not stop the roots from breaking the concrete. They do make a concrete patch that has a combination of mortar, adhesive, and vinyl material in it that works real well at holding water in, and expands when needed. I would person remove the ring if it is really bad looking and possibly replace it with the same look or something different. But of course make it bigger for future growth. Good luck. If there is anything else I can help you with please feel free to write again. Thanks Bill
