Question
My wife wants to plant bulbs.  I would like to know how to get rid of the grass that is there and how to keep it away.  Every time I tried putting down weed block it just still grows through the weed block.  Do you have any tips I can use.  Thank you

Putting down weed block and having weeds grow anyway is very annoying to say the least.Lots of the fabric weedblock does this because weed seeds germinate on top of the mulch and grow into the fabric.That is why I use black plastic for weed block.You can get it at WalMart or if you want a larger roll you can go to a farmer's co-op store and get it in a bigger roll.WalMart has smaller rolls in the paint section where it is used as a drop cloth or floor protector.Then get some metal garden staples that are U shaped to hold down the plastic.Finish off with about 3 inches of mulch or pea gravel or whatever you choose to use as a covering.After that you cut holes that are large enough to fit a plant or bulbs and give it adequate water supply.Add fresh potting soil to the regular soil underneath the plastic when you dig the hole. I have used black plastic(never clear)for 20 years now and it has served it's purpose well. If you use a wood mulch,you will have to replenish it every year however as it does deteriorate from year to year.Hope this is helpful info.
