Look & Feel

Modern polyethylene/nylon blends mimic blade shape, color variation, and resilience remarkably well. From 5 ft, most people can't tell. Up close, no dew, no scent, uniform temperature.

Installation Process (Pro or DIY)

1. Remove existing sod/soil 3–4".
2. Install drainage: perforated pipe + gravel trench if needed.
3. Base: 2–3" decomposed granite (DG) or ¾" road base, compacted to 95% Proctor.
4. Weed barrier: geotextile fabric.
5. Turf: roll out, seam with adhesive tape + glue, stretch tight.
6. Infill: 1–2 lbs/sq ft silica sand + crumb rubber (hides backing, weighs down, cools surface).
7. Power broom to stand blades.

Cost Reality

• Pro install: $5–6/sq ft = $2,000–$2,400 for 400 sq ft.
• Concrete: $7–$7.50/sq ft.
• DIY materials: ~$3/sq ft (turf + base + infill).
