I looked through my technical information, and there is no obvious branch drop problem (called appropriately, "Summer Branch Drop") for this species. They are a beautiful tree, and I have planted them as street trees (all be it, a messy one), in residential areas (Central Coast California).
Their branches thin out as they get mature, and it sounds like you've got one! 50 feet is impressive, and as big as its going to get.
Of course, all bets are off when you get the hot, Santa Ana winds!
If it doesn't look right to you, then I would suggest hiring an arborist to trim it for you...$600 to $800 dollars, is my guess.
