new deck landscaping?

Question
Hi, we just installed a sunroom that opens to a 9 x12 smallish deck.  it has white lattice around the bottom and it looks nice, the sunroom is mostly white/cream to match my house (siding).  the problem is we took up brick pavers that were an old patio my husband put in but wasnt done that great.  however the pavers are in good shape.  what we want to do is make some type of small landing when you go off the very last step of the deck its now mud there when it rains where grass used to be.  what can i do that looks nice but is inexpensive.  i was hoping to use some of the pavers and make a small area to step on first before stepping onto the deck but i know they also have those stepping stones like at home depot and i also like the look of the little rock like pebbles i thought might look nice? any ideas.  my husband doenst have time so i am going to do it but i feel confident i can because this spring i installed a two brick high edger around my landscaping in the front and it looks nice but alot of work.  i had to haul 160 bricks and i bought pl400 glue. it was alot of work but looks great.  thanks

(Weird - sorry for the delay - I thought I'd answered this already - I'm changing offices and e-mail, etc.)

YES!  A great idea. I'm all for re-using old materials within the garden, and I've placed pavers in all sorts of things - decomposed granite, dirt, pea gravel, bark mulch, even mortared to existng concrete or cut into green lawn!  And, you can't get much more inexpensive than using something over, again!  I would lay the steps at one level, first, then add the gravel to "fill in" the paver width to the desired final grade at the stoop.

Maybe, you can create steps in a pattern, with grass in between the gaps?  Whatever you do, make sure the base that you place the pavers on is well-compacted, so no settling occurs over time.  And, drainage at the landing is critical...make sure it doesn't "pond" where people will be walking though.

Do a quick Google.com search (in the images section), to see what others have done.  There are lots of very proud owners of "do it yourself" handywork, with some great ideas to share with the rest of the internet.

Again, my apologies for the delay, and I wish you great success!  -Marc
