creeping juniper

Question
Our creeping juniper appears to be dying in the middle of the plant - large 12-inch brown centers in a four-foot spreading plant. What is causing this and what can we do to correct it?

Answer
Could be all sorts of things...somebody stepped on it, or its drip emitter is clogged, or it's sick (any numbewr of things), or it's just old and dying.

I can't be certain.  Not to get too philosophical, but plants are a lot like people: some are healthy for no reason (even with lots of booze and loose livin' - i.e. crappy soil or exposures), some die for no reason (even if they eat their oatbran - i.e. are planted with the uttmost of care), and finally, some get run over by stuff....and look much worse for the trip.

Sorry.
