weed control

Question
I have several large beds of English ivy that have been ravaged this year by poison ivy growth. Is there a chemical solution to killing the weed, that will allow the English ivy to survive? The mix is 60% English, 40% poison.

Answer
i'm in southern NJ.
i would recommend hand pulling all the poison ivy out. get somone who is not allergic to it to do it. then just keep ahead of it as it reappears.
the other way would be to paint(w/a paint brush) roundup onto the poison ivy leaves. it will only kill the plants whose foliage it comes into contact with.  you may have to redo this many times as poison ivy will normally releaf a few times before it dies completely.
you might want to fertilizer w/a good evergreen(slightly acidic) fertilizer. i'd recommend hollytone an espoma product available at most garden centers. it's organic based. this may help eliminate the poison ivy by adjusting the soil pH.
good luck
