Choices for screening

Question
Our next door neighbor has a camper, 30' long and 11.5' high just 3' from our south property line, parked at the back of their property. To bring it within village code they installed a 6' fence just 3" from the line. The camper is quite visible from our home.  What can we plant to screen it that would be tall and fast growing? There's not much ground to plant, about 2.5-3' at the widest, as our barn is very close to the fence, and our driveway as well. Also the fence blocks a lot of the sun.  A maple is also in that area, and the new plantings would be partially under that canopy.  Thanks for any recommendations.

Answer
Beth,

I'm not jealous of your situation.

When I think of screening plants, I first think of Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis).  Evergreen, grows tall, but not wide (2ft).  Grows about a foot per year.  If you go to a nursery that sells to landscapers, you can get them 5-6ft to start, which will give you a headstart.

There are several varieties with different growth habits.  I use "Emerald Green" a lot.

The closer they are to the maple's roots, the slower they'll grow, but they'll survive.  Also, less light will mean slow growth and slightly thinner foliage, but I think they should still work.

Hope this helps,
