QuestionI'm in Northern Indiana--I want to grow climbing vines on a trellis (or wires--whatever) on the front of my mobile home. I've found a vine that I love the look of--kiwi vine(actinidiaceae). Can I buy a kiwi at market, scoop out the seeds and dry them to plant in the spring? Or would I have to buy them at a gardener supply house?
AnswerBarbara,
Sorry. I've never done this so I don't know, I've never seen kiwi seeds available, and I'm really bad at getting stuff started from seed. So you're on your own on this one. Having said that...
It wouldn't hurt to try your scoop out, clean & dry idea. I'd keep them in the dark also.
If the seeds fail, I know that around here kiwi plants aren't very expensive...less than $10. I also know there are male and female, you need both to end up with fruit. This might be tough to determine if you're going from seed.
