My yard!

Question
Hi, we have a new house with out landscaping. We are soding the front, but close to the house, between the house and the sidewalk (from the porch steps to the driveway) we would like to plant stuff! It is deep enough for 2 or 3 plants deep. I like low maintenance and some of the layers to stay green, and some that could flower. I am in alabama. The yard gets morning sun, till the sun goes over the house.
thanks

Answer
Teresa,

Usually flowering = maintenance, but for lower maintenance flowering, get some bulbs in (daffodils, tulips).  You'll need to wait till Fall to put those in.

I like to fill beds with different varieties of Nandina.  This is a great plant with varieties that go from almost groundcover low to head high, and several beautiful choices that get 2-3 feet high and wide.  These plants are evergreen (year-round foliage) but the foliage is red, yellow & green, and it holds berries through fall and winter.  And it needs zero maintenance.

Hope this helps.
