QuestionI have two ground covers, TRAILING STONECROP SEDUM F. GOLD, and BABY TEARS. I just purchased them at the greenhouse because they were so attractive and also new to me, as I wish to broaden my range as a gardener. I am intimidated because I have never planted either of these before. I still have them both in their greenhouse pots because I don't know what to do with them! I live in ZONE 7, central NC. Although it is March 21, it is still quite cold. Can I plant them outside, or should I opt for a patio container? If outside, can they survive through the winter? (Our winters in Zone 7 are pretty mild). I realize that even though they are both ground covers they have very different soil and water requirements. If you could provide some suggestions for me I would be so appreciative.
AnswerHi!
I think that it would be best for you to wait a little longer so that there would be no risk in planting them outside.
The sedum would suely survive there, but the baby tears could probably get some winter dieback, but I do not believe that it would be enough to kill it.
Sedums like more sandy soil, while baby tears would like a richer soil, with more orgnic matter.(compost)
Good luck!
