QuestionI have a section of chain link fence about 30 feet long. I would like to put a flower bed along side the fence. How do I keep the dirt from a flower bed from going through the fence? Do you have any pictures that show a solution?
AnswerVictoria,
What I usually do is to drop the edges of the bed about 3 inches lower than the dirt or lawn outside the bed, then shape the bed to slope up to its normal height in the middle, and back down to a dropped edge in the back.
This contour will allow a place for loose dirt or compost to fall without leaving the bed. Every once in a while you have to clean out whatever dirt is filling up this V shaped space, but that's no big deal. If your bed is significantly higher than the area at base of the fence you may have to remove some dirt.
