QuestionI am not allowed to plant any trees or bushes along the front of my house. Can you tell me what kind of trees do well in pots?. I live in South Florida.
Thank you
AnswerThere are lots of options for trees in containers, in your area. Size is determined by the limits of the potting area available to you. I have seen trees 40 feet tall in pots, all the way down to topiary bushed not much larger than a chair. If you want to be able to move it once the tree starts growing, then I'd stick with a pot no bigger than a coffee table (About 2-3 feet across).
As far as what does well in your area, Florida has a great Extension program through the university of Florida at

They might be able to help you. You are in southern Florida, and it crosses three USDA zones (9, 10, & 11). Everything from Palms, Eucalyptus, Avocados, Loquats, Citrus, Jacaranda, Bauhinia, Loquat, or bougainvillea... Try finding these larger fruit trees in compact varieties. It just depends on what you like, or what you are willing to plant. Unfortunately, the Ag Extension wants money for their plant section software. I think that any reputable garden center can assist you in finding the right tree for your front yard pots. I try to match the bloom with the house trim, if possible.
The extension office also has a circular on ornamental trees for your area.

Some can get quite large, so be careful in your selection. Good luck.
