QuestionHi, I am procuring a method that would grow plants without much water or witout moist soil. This is for a humanitarian emergency food package project. DO you have more information on a new woven-cellulose fabric that grows plants? Or any other methods you suggest will much appreciated. I wish to grow healthy food quickly and without much resources. Thank you, GOD BLESS! Miriam
AnswerMiriam,
I won't be much help with this one.
I haven't heard about the cellulose fabric you mentioned.
But if I were to guess, I would say that it provides mechanical support for the plants, but wouldn't supply nutrients or water. Those you would still need to supply.
The only thing that I know that helps me grow any kind of plant in adverse conditions is compost. If I have enough, I mix it in the soil as I plant, and then mulch (cover) the root zone with compost. If I only have a little I do the later only.
It provides nutrients out of waste materials, improves the soil, allowing better transfer of nutrients from soil to plant, retains moisture, insulates the roots.
Look for The Rodale Book of Composting
