QuestionI have a few lantana shrubs planted in pots. I've had them for a few years and they've always bloomed nicely in the summer. However, last winter i pruned them very severely. And they didn't bloom this summer, in fact didn't even get any green leaves. Do you think they're gone-ers, or did I prune too much and will it take another year or so to start blooming again?
AnswerIf you had said just "no blooms", or "few blooms, and little new growth", I would have said to just wait for next spring.
But the fact that they are potted, pruned severly in winter, and had no new growth this year... I'm guessing you've seen the last of them.
Perhaps the winter was just a little colder than normal? Sometimes, waiting to prune until late winter, early spring (depending on your climate) will help. That extraneous growth can give the plant some extra insulation against the cold.
