QuestionWe live in northern california in the SF bay area. We have a hillside in our backyard, that slopes down towards our house. I'd like to plant a redwood tree (or 2 or 3 )in our backyard, and am wondering about on the hillside.
i know redwood trees grow on hillsides in nature (like in the Santa Cruz mountains). But I also know that some fall over. I know redwood trees have shallow roots.
So, to finally get to my question: how safe or unsafe would it be to plant a redwood tree or 2 on our hillside?
AnswerI am afraid you are asking the wrong expert for this. I have never even seen a Redwood in person, or I should say I've never had personal contact with one. I am all the way across the country in western kentucky.Never even been to California. So I think you should find another expert that is probably listed in "Trees" or a professional arborist. My immediate response would be "Heavens,no!"There are probably so many more choices you could choose.I can't imagine a leaning redwood that could eventually fall on my house and destroy it and all of it's occupants inside. But try to look for another expert on trees. If you can't find one let me know and I will scope one out for you.
