QuestionHi Mark,
I've become sort of an stone aficionado. My very rocky property
used to be a river bed. Removing them so I could put in a lawn was at first no fun, but as I took a closer look I became fascinated with the beauty and variety amongst them. As most are too big (and costly) to polish, I'd like to know if you have any penetrating sealant recommendations I can apply so they will have that wet, but not shiny look. Most of the stones are fist-size or smaller. I've placed most of them along the front porch and around planted trees. Can you help? I look forward to your reply.
Thanks,
Sue
AnswerHello,
I would suggest a sanding sealer followed by a coat of satin polyurethane varnish, both waterbased products, costing about 30 dollars per gallon. For more durability,a satin poly spar varnish can be applied at a cost of about 40 dollars per gallon. Stones of your sized can be dipped in the coatings. Thank you for writing.
