QuestionRecently contracted someone to install a 4' retaining wall, end result didn't look right, did some research and found that a plate compactor was recommended for installation. Is this absolutely necessary for a 4' wall, on a slope on clay soil?
AnswerThanks for the question Aron.
Good landscape contractors do solid pre work for everything they do.
Can you describe what doesn't look right?
Also, what does the law say in your area about the height a retaining wall must be engineered? 4 ft. is right around that questionable height for many areas. Do you know if any geogrid was used on this wall?
The sub base under the wall should always be well compacted, usually in 2 inch layers. The backfill should also be compacted.
Sounds like you should be calling them back for a visit if you aren't happy.
Look forward to hearing from you again.
Thanks
