Question
I have two spaces I want to put rock on for landscaping instead of plants. The first space is 50ft long by 6ft wide by 3 inches deep. How much rock and how big of rock should I use.
The second space is 29ft long by 6ft wide by 3 inches deep. This
is what would be considered the "medium" strip on the far side of
a side walk where the curb is.
Sould I use a weed mat?

For stone work awed mat is fine but be sure it doesn't impede drainage.  You can alo use a ore-emergent to ensure weed control.  

The size of the stone is purely preference and the volume of stone is easily calculated.  By visiting any of the on,one landscape calculators you'll be able to get yardage based on your material choice.
