QuestionI have an area 26 ft. x 24 ft. in from of a green tin machine shed. I would like to plant a tree that is not taller than 10-12 feet that has white blooms in the spring and nice fall colors. Im in Zone 2. Also, I would like to know some complementary shrubs for the chosen focal tree. I was thinking Evans Cherry. For the most part the ground will be covered in rock. Thank you.
AnswerThere are very few choices for a zone 2 location, even less with the rock on the ground. Given this is by a shed and may not be coddled, I would go with something more native and hardy like a Birch and underplant that with some Viburnum to give it texture and color.
