QuestionHi Kevin,
I am not sure this question is in your area but I am giving it a try. I have a section outside that is currently just dirt. I had intended to have a small garden there but things didn't go as planned. I would like to put down bricks but I am unsure as to how to figure out how many bricks I will need. The area is 62"x 42" and the bricks are 16" square each (there are several bricks together). How do I figure this out. Thank you so much for your time and effort.
Sincerely,
Ann Kitay
AnswerHi Ann. You are going to have to either modify the bricks by cutting them to fit the area, or modify the area to accept the dimensions of the bricks.
16 inches multiplied by 4 bricks = 64 inches (You have 62 inches by 42 inches)
16 inches multiplied by 3 = 48 inches
This above example would be 3 wide by 4 long = 12 bricks
The dimensions of you garden bed are not divisible by the brick size you are using.
I hope you can make these adjustments as they are minor.
Also I am not sure where you live but I would suggest a sub-base of crushed gravel, and sand underneath them. If You have no drainage problems and you live in a frost free zone, you can just use a sand base to level them.
Good luck to you.
Kevin
