Question
We just moved to Greensboro NC.  We do not like yard work so want to naturalize an area of the back yard.  We live in an area where the soil has a lot of clay.  What would you suggest?

Hello:

Add organic matter. You can get organic matter by growing cover crops on the site.

Here is a list of cover crops:

mustard

turnip

radish

fodder radish (deep rooted,accumulates nutrients)

phacelia

beans (adds nitrogen to soil)

pea (adds nitrogen to soil)

sunflower

rye

alfalfa
