QuestionI've just created a garden. Everything is perfect except, the right side. After all of the rain we got the right side of the garden that I had created is very wet. How can I fix that, or what can I plant there that will take that much of wetness? Please help, I've worked so hard on this and I would like to plant in my garden. Thank you, Mary
AnswerMary:
Honestly the real answer is that you probably don't need to do anything unless water is standing for more than one day. If it has rained a lot, it may take several (3-4) days of good sun and no additional rain or watering for the soil to dry out. If after several days the soil is still showing little sign of drying out you may want to raise the wet area of the garden with some sand and organic material so that he soil will drain better. If the garden is in a low spot then you must re-grade it to make it drain better. You may also under-drain it with a french drain system.
Unfortunately I am really not an expert plants for wet soils and without knowing your location I could not advise you on particular plants for your area. I would advise you to try and fix the drainage problem or soils first. If that doesn't work consult your local nurseryman for best plants in your area for "wet feet".
Best of Luck
