Question
i live in the hollywood hills in los angeles and the recent heavy rains caused a small mudslide in our backyard. (our yard consists of a flat area backed up by a hill).  i know who to call to help move the dirt away and to make it look better but what kind of expert will help to make sure the hill is as secure as can be as far and safe?  is that something landscape architects do?  or is there some kind of other specialist we need.

Mud Slide Miriam:
Here in Georgia I have little to no experience with this as we don't have land slides. However, I suspect that a well qualified Landscape Architect in your area may be at least partially qualified. If not, they may be able to provide some advice as to who to call. However, a good geotechnical engineer who specializes in slope stability would definitely be the best bet in your area. I am sure there are engineering firms in your area with specialist in this sort of thing. Check your local listings for Geotechnical Engineer.
