QuestionHi,
I love your website. Anyway i had these huge rose of sharons
in my flowerbed. They dropped so many babies i couldn't keep
up with pulling them so we got rid of them. Now i have about
1000 babies. Do you think they will come back next year.
Also if i have to pull them up will they come up easier
after the freeze? thanks
AnswerThanks, Pam - I wish it were just a "seed" problem which would go a way in one groing season, but Rose of Sharon (the Althea variety, and not the Hibiscus syriacus) readily root-sprouts sucker plants.
The best way to kill one & its "babies" is by chemical intervention -Round-up, which works on growing parts, and not frozen & dormant parts.
Here is one suggested method - http://www.ehow.com/how_5761684_rid-rose-sharon.html
Now, if there are sensitive plants nearby or these "babies" are in a lawn area that you want to keep, be careful for overspray...I would apply the plant-killing chemical very carefully and BEFORE the plant goes dormant - Follow the label directions.
Hope it helps.
