QuestionI have a project to screen my property from a cemetery. I am looking for a shade
loving tree because the environment is shade. I was advised that the arborvitae
would be a good candidate. Could you confirm this. Also, could you identify
candidate trees that can be planted that are 10-12 feet high?
Thanks in advance.
AnswerGeorge:
No, although there are many types of Arborvitae, this genus is not typically associated with shade loving trees. On the contrary they usually prefer some sun. However many varieties will do well in part shade.
There are very few trees that will remain 10-12 ht. That is really a medium to large shrub height. I would suggest hollies if you live in the south east. Without knowing where you live I can not really say what you should plant.
All the best.
