QuestionI currently have dianthus flowers planted, covered with rock surrounding the area. Now for sone reason the plants from last year and the new ones added this year just don't seem to be flurishing as in years past.Anyway, here's my question. Is it possible/feasible to plant empty pot down in ground, weed barrier nd cover with surrounding rock so that instead of having a few perinnel's,I would be able to place seasonal annual flowers in the pots,so that is a variety all year long.Live in Hamilton.NJ.zone 6
AnswerThe heat from the stones, as well as the weight itself; has probably precluded the Dianthus from doing well this year. Yes, you can absolutely change the plant material from season to season by sinking the pots. Remember to water more often, the container will cause them to lose moisture more readily!
