QuestionI have an above ground pool. I am putting rocks around the pool, but would like to put some plants in a few spots. What kind of plants would hold up to the chlorine water hitting them? Also, the area receives a lot of sun.
AnswerHello,
There have been no reports of chlorine in pool water harming plants. The chlorine level of the pool water is relatively low and is not much greater than the chlorine content of ordinary tap water, which is used to water plants. Salt water is harmful to plants and contains a much higher chlorine content than pool water. Even salt spray on plants can hinder their growth or kill them.
The main concern you will have with full sun in the pool area is an elevated temperature and that will mean your plants will require more water,so you may want to choose drought tolerant plants. Mulch the plants whenever possible to conserve moisture. Good luck.
