Questionmy neighbor has three large oak tres (not live oak)- two closer to my house and the three canopies have grown together and block the sun from my backyard and pool. also have a terrible time with the leaves being all over MY property - in my pool, gutters and roof. living in zone 9 or 10 (boca raton, fl) have hurricanes here and the tres are over 50 ft tall and i have no idea the diamater of each canopy. the trees afford no privacy only a nuisance to my landscape and danger in a hurricane. what can i do? are there any height restrictions? any rules on how close an oak tree should be planted to a house? thank you
AnswerAlong with noise, fences, and views, trees are one of the most common issues between neighbors.
Since Boca Raton is a larger city, I抎 think that You can find your local ordinances regarding Code Compliance online.
For Boca Raton, it is located at: http://www.ci.boca-raton.fl.us/dev/code/
The City has an enforcement/complaint filing process for "overgrown vegetation"; see the button at this link:
http://www.ci.boca-raton.fl.us/dev/code/complaint.shtm
If it is not resolved to your satisfaction, I would consult Code Compliance staff (561) 393-7941 for other options available to you, or possibly a local attorney.
BTW, thanks for your patience, as I forgot to turn on my VACATION button! ~M
