QuestionHi Sean-- we are doing a rather large backyard landscape re-do of our parents 40 yr old house. we have a site plan with measurements and concepts that we paid an architect friend to prepare. there is bay window that is approx 15 ft wide and at ground level--we will have access path of 3 ft along the outside which is protected by the 3ft overhang of roof line and it is programed to be done in DG, which I am a big fan of and then beyond the path which follows the radius of the window will be a planter which is another 3ft and butts right up to the DG. the big question is should that planter be DG with plants or just regular dirt with plants? I was thinking of using succulents and other drought tolerant plants which will work with other plantings in yard, i have the option of irrigating with drip or standard sprinklers, Please forward your thoughts when you can--Thanks---Kevin
AnswerI like contrast. So unless your going for a very minimalist landscape then I would differentiate between the two areas. Consider a different complimentary stone or gravel as a mulch over the planter area. Permatil is a great covering for use with succulents.
