I have an unlimited supply of random scrap pieces of granite and marble, of all different sizes and shapes. I have been planning on building a about a 1000 sqft patio with fire pit, tables, benches, decor, etc. How can I use the scrap granite/marble in the patio? if I break or cut it into smaller pieces, is there a way I can make it sturdy and not slippery? Do you have any ideas about it?

what you are wanting to do is called "terrazzo", and it has been around since...well a REALLY long time.  

There are several techniques of application, depending on the size of the chips.  you can even mix chips of granite in with portland cement and grind it down to create a really beautiful effect.  I have personally never done it or designed it, as there are so many expert artisans who specialize in it, that I leave it up to their capable hands.  

I'd suggest you poke around on Google and see if there are any sites dedicated to terrazzo construction techniques.
