QuestionHello, my question is...I am developing 2 acres of property. I am putting a willow tree line break however, I am also planting skyview poplar and I have green ash. What would look the best for the tree line? I am thinking the willow on the outside and the others to work a tree line on the inside. My frontage is 200 feet and the depth of the property is 300. Also we put spruce trees in a trio on both sides of the house/drive what trees could I plant to compliment these??
AnswerThe treeline is heavy on deciduous plant materials, so if winter wind is also a concern, I'd weave in some evergreens within the windbreak. Is it functional or for aesthetics? If you want what "looks best", I wouldn't plant them in a long row. They'll just look like big corn. Maybe stagger them into three off-set rows and mix the species up. OR if you like the look of a "wall" of trees, go for it, as it is your home.
To compliment spruce, I like more course plants such as Iris, lilies, or perhaps Oregon Grape (depending on your climate zone)
By the way, your parcel is 1.38 acres ~M
