QuestionMy wife and I are planting mini jade, flipping flapjacks and red New Zealand
Flax. Do we need to lay sand and rocks for proper drainage or can we just put
them straight in the dirt and do we need to do some sort of weed protection?
Thanks always,
Nicholas
AnswerHey, Nicholas.
Unfortunatley, I don't know where you are or what your weather is like. If you get a lot of rain, it would be best if you provided good drainage so that the plants don't rot. If you don't get a lot of rian, like me here in San Diego, then straight in the dirt should be okay.
You can help prevent weeds by putting some weed cloth down and then covering it with soil, sand, or small pebbles. The weed cloth will prevent weed roots from getting a good foothold in the soil. You can also use a pre-emergent weed killer, or just pull the few weeds that do some up since you shouldn't have very many since your soil should be fairly dry for the succulents.
Hope that helps.
