Italian Cypress trees

Question
We have 4 Italian Cypress trees and have lived here for 25 yrs.  This year I have noticed some sort of lt. brown nuts growing on the trees.  I see these on trees in the area as well.  It is a first for us to see them.  What are they?
Thanks.

Answer
I am assuming these "nuts" are NOT a disease or parasite  - like an oak gall.  So, my first thought is these are the actual fruit of the tree, a hard, small, nut-like cone, the size of a Filbert.

More info on the Cupressus sempervirens (Italian Cypress) fruit:

All junipers & cypress have these similar seed pods.

If you suspect these are NOT the fruit of the tree, break off a hand full and take them to the local nursery, and ask about parasitic beasties in your area.
