dust in the backyard

Question
I have to labs and they stay in the backyard. The problem i am having is that there houses are under the deck so no grass grows there we have peagravel right now but cant seem to keep it in we have put railroad ties down but the red dust still seems to get all over the house and the screened in porch. Is there anything else we can use or is the gravel not thick enough

Answer
Hey, Phyllis.

The problem is that you have two labs! Been there, done that. LOL

Our two fine, furry friends are big dogs with big paws, so the pea gravel isn't going to be big enough to keep them from doing anything other than what they want to do, and that is to redistribute the pea gravel as they see fit.

When I lived in Texas I had two labs and two golden retrievers and they loved to dig everywhere except where I wanted them to dig. What I finally did was put some big rocks in some strategic locations, rocks that are too big for them to move but not too big for me to move where I wanted them. Then I filled in with some larger river rock, 6-12 inches in size. Then, on top of that, I put smaller river rock about 3-6 inches in size. That settled down around the larger river rock, and river rock is round, nice and smooth, so it makes it easy for the dogs to walk on but not redistribute. It also made it easy for me to walk on barefoot if I wanted to.

Pea gravel, though. You're just giving those two little cuties too much to do, too much fun.

Hope that helps.
