QuestionI have a house on Oneida Lake, NY. We have approx. 200ft of beach and have a terrible time getting rid of the weeds that grow on the beach. What is the best method of erradicating weeds that grow in sand. Last summmer someone roto-tilled the beach for us, this made the problem much worse. We can't use weed killers like Round-up due to the fact that the run off would end up in the lake.
Thanks for your time.

AnswerHello Ivan, sorry if I've taken a while to get back to you.
It seems to me that the only solution here is a weedkiller made from vinegar. It works as a contact herbicide, so it won't kill off weeds with a perennial root system but it will kill off annual weeds:

The only other solution would be to rotovate the sand, exposing the weed's root system when there is a strong sunshine beating down on it.
Good luck
