QuestionI have a small cement patio and would like to tile it with terracotta tiles. My problem is i have 2 dogs who are in the yard all the time as well. They have no grassy or dirt area to do their business. Are tiles impractical for the patio? Will they absorb the odors and stains? Would a stamped concrete be a better solution or would it also absorb the odors? What would you suggest that would be the best material to use? I live in mexico and the weather is normally very dry and hot all year and only rains a few days a year.
Thanks for your help!
AnswerYou need to have a sealed surface. Any tile that is not sealed will absorb moisture. Any grout that is not sealed will also absorb moisture and fecees. A smooth sealed surface will be best for cleaning up after dogs. Just look at any kennel to see what they use.
Stamped concrete can get VERY hot and any pattern will act to hold moisture and waste. The smoother the surface the better.
