QuestionWhat is the definition and difference in ExoScape and Zeroscape. Thank you.
AnswerJames,
Both exoscape and zeroscape refer to the same practice. The actual reference should be "Xeriscape". This term was patented in 1981 by the Denver Water company - the Greek "xeros" meaning 'dry'.
The practice of xeriscaping is typically considered the most environmentally friendly form of landscaping - its intent being WATER/ENERGY efficiency and lower maintenance. Seven xeriscape principles are: sustainable planning and design; practical lawn areas; efficient irrigation; soil improvement; use of mulches; low water demand plants; good maintenance.
In my opinion, good xeriscaping is gorgeous and should not be reserved just for arid climates or regions under drought conditions. A good design will always utilize the seven steps above.
Hope this helps. - BC
