QuestionHello,
I have a small tree planted right next to my well head. I'd actually like to replace it with something else, but not sure if ANY tree should be planted there. Any thoughts?
thanks!
AnswerDoug,
The most common problem with existing landscapes is the wrong tree/plant in the wrong place! You question is valid.......
Without knowing the purpose this tree serves in your landscape (focal point, screen, ornamental, grouping), and without knowing what zone you live in, it is hard for me to say take it out or replace it. Here are a few rules of thumb.
1. It is better to be safe than sorry. If the tree does not have a specific job in the landscape, I would remove it and leave it out. Even trees with uninvasive root systems can still be a problem.
2. If the tree serves a specific purpose, than finding a suitable replacement is key. Consider tall growing shrubs or a grouping of smaller shrubs. Also consider non plant material such as a fountain, sculpture, gazebo, yard art, etc.
These are just a few ideas. If you can take a picture and attach it with some more info (your location, etc.), than I can make a better determination.
Good luck - BC
