Questionwe are ready to spread dirt in our front lawn in preparation for grass seed. we used a weed and feed product on the lawn 45 days ago, so we have a lot of crusty weeds. should we completely remove all of that before we spread dirt (please say no!) or can we just cut it really short? thanks in advance. i love this website
Answer Refer to the label on that W&F product of 45 days ago. Find the part that warns against seeding too early after applying it. If it says 45 days or less you can go ahead and set out the grass seed. If not, wait until the time specified on the label.
If crusty means dead plant material, then you can mow the area really close (scalp); top dress and seed.
