converting a lawn of plants to a lawn of grass

Question
hello, Ronald

I have a lawn that is part-grass and part-plants such as ivy, pachysandra, vinca. I want to convert so that it is ALL GRASS.
Interestingly, when I google this task, using the same words as I used here, I find that the first 10-20 sites are all about the OPPOSITE! they tell me how to convert a lawn of grass to a lawn of plants!!

There is a message there, but I don't get it.

So, back to my question..I want to remove the plants and put grass in their place. What do I have to do?

thanks for your reply. My lawn is in the South Jersey area.

Chris

Answer
I can answer your requests only in a general sense. For specifics, your best resource would be your County Extension Agent. Click Here.
The reason why you might be directed away from a grass lawn is tied up with water conservation, the reduction of nutrient runoff in the water of lakes and streams; and the introduction of pollutants in the ground water. .
The alternative is a ground cover - broad leaf plants which look like a lawn when properly planted and grown; but which are considered weeds when they pop up at random in a grass lawn.
Round Up?is a good killer of all types of vegetation. Spray it on the unwanted plants -ivy, Pachysandra Vinca etc. and wait 7 to 10 days before sodding or seeding.
I am not familiar enough with your area to make a recommendation should you choose to plant a ground cover.
