QuestionHi.. I live in Southwest florida and have St. Augustine Grass (also Floritam version in spots) and have a lot of Dollar weed starting in the lawn... I have tried atrizine (spelling ?) and that did not seem to work. Would appreciate any thoughts on how I can get rid of this stuff
Thanks
Nick.
Answer Dollar weed likes moisture and you may look at your sprinkling/watering system to make sure that it is not putting on too much water. Once established, the weed has an extensive root system which enables it to survive.
Atrazine is a "Restricted Use" chemical and the label on your product is sure to have limitations as to how much you can apply in a season/year. There is a fairly narrow window on the calendar during which you are allowed to use the chemical.
You may have already used up your options.
If so and you cannot wait until the Fall, I suggest that you ask a professional service to help you. They have other chemicals and the equipment and expertise to deliver an accurate application. St. Augustine grass does not forgive bad application of chemicals.
And do not forget to look at the irrigation. Call the Extension Service to find out how often and how much to water for the turf to do well. You want to have the minimal irrigation to help out with that Dollar weed problem.
