QuestionI am trying to determine what type of sod to use to replace the weeds at the house I just purchased. Since this is the first lawn (as this is my first house) I am having a bit of a long decision making process. I am gather information on Zoysia at the present and trying to decide between that and Floritam. I would like a harty grace that stays green during the winter months (or for most of it). If it does brown during winter I would like something that will bounce back fast. I have already found a great lawn maintenance person, whom I plan to use, and have a good irrigation system. What are your recommendations? Also, whats the differenc ebetween Empire Zoysia and Ultimate Zoysia?
Answer I do not know as much as I should about the varieties of
Zoysia , to give you a considered opinion. My best suggestion would be to ask the lawn maintenance person. Generally these operators build up an almost-emotional connection with certain species and even varieties within the species. The chances are that they will take greater care with an account where they have had some say in the choices at the outset.
It is best to accept the fact that insects are in the future of your lawn, regardless of your choice of turf. Make sure that your maintenance professional has a 'scouting' routine. This will identify the earliest stages of pest infestation; when the most benign control products can be used at their lowest dosage rate.
