QuestionQUESTION: I have a lawn large in area (one acre plus). It is a mature lawn that has been well cared for, but has never been overseeded. It has recently been power raked to remove thatch and other debris. I am ready to apply an organic fertilizer and I would also like to overseed.
My questions - is it better to fertilize, then overseed, or vice versa? What is the recommended dosage per 1000 square feet for overseeding?
ANSWER: John. I own a sod farm and we allways seed and wait till the new grass is up a few weeks then apply your fertilizer. If you need anymore help feel free to ask. Thank you. Gene

QUESTION: I note that you seed before fertilizing. I understand that you are basically speaking about a sod operation. Does it make a difference if you are overseeding a mature lawm?
AnswerJohn, I do not waste fertilizer when seeding. Seed has its own energy in its shell so you do not need to fertilize when seeding. You can use a 15-15-15 when you seed and it will help green up your existing lawn.
I hope this helps.
